What Are You Weighting For?
Get trained on state-of-the-art fitness equipment including FreeMotion resistance and core training machines, treadmills, ellipticals, and recumbent/stationary bikes.  Then, with the help of trained staff members, develop your own personal fitness program.  Sessions have a limited number of participants, so you can easily complete your workout and receive individualized attention from the staff.

Aerobic Exercise
Fall, Winter, Spring & Summer Sessions
Aerobic Exercise emphasizes cardio-vascular fitness and muscular endurance, and uses Pilates-type exercises to strengthen the core muscles.  Classes are low impact with high intensity.  The aerobic portion of each class lasts 30 minutes to give you the maximum benefit for cardio-fitness.

This challenging 90-minute workout, combining cardio-vascular conditioning, muscular strength using light weights, and stretching, is designed to give you total body fitness.  Bring your own 1 - 3lb. weights.

Step N' Sculpt
Fall, Winter, & Spring Sessions

njoy a serious workout aimed at increasing cardio-vascular conditioning and muscular strength. The use of weights will help you achieve muscular strength and endurance, as well as assisting in better appearance, weight loss/management, and resistance to injury. You provide a step and 1-3 lb. weights.

A new, non-aerobic total body workout.  Stretch, tone and shape your muscles, condition, and improve your balance.  Floor work and the use of weights will be included.

Pilates (limited enrollment)
Pilates is an exercise system focused on the core of the body, which assists in distributing strength evenly throughout the body.  Increase your flexibility, improve your posture, build strong lean muscles, not bulk, and reduce stress.  All fitness levels can benefit from Pilates.

Zumba
Age 16+
Zumba combines high energy and motivating music with unique moves and combinations that allow you to dance away your worries.  A workout that is fun and easy to do, it is great for the body and great for the mind!  Using Latin and International music, dance themes create a dynamic fitness system; a mix of body sculpting movements and easy-to-follow dance steps.

Trim and Swim (A complete fitness program)
Stretch and strengthen your whole body with Pilates-type exercises.  Increase your flexibility and cardiovascular endurance with land and water exercises.  This class encourages men and women to work at their own ability level.
1st hour:  Warm-ups, light aerobics and floor exercises followed by a cool-down.
2nd hour:  Exercises done in shallow water (no swimming skills are required).  Swimmers may help choose to swim laps in deep water.  The water's resistance and buoyancy help provide a total body workout without stress to muscles and joints.

Discover Hatha Yoga, the physical branch of yoga. Learn stretching and holding postures that redirect blood flow and bring nutrients to all parts of the body. Keep joints loose and limber; promote fitness and relaxation. )

Stress Release - T'ai Chi Chung
Prevent illness, increase circulation and improve general wellness by practicing correct principles of T'ai Chi.  Learn easy, no-impact movements and combine them with proper breathing techniques, and spend time in meditation.

T'ai Chi Fundamentals for Beginners
Fall, Winter, Spring
T'ai Chi is a slow, gentle Chinese exercise that enhances relation skills, mental focus and physical alignment while building leg strength, endurance and stability.  Current research suggests that T'ai Chi can improve balance and reduce stress and enhance immune function.  Health care professionals learn this as an excellent tool to use with their patients that compliments any therapy regimen.  It is a non-impact, moderate intensity cardiovascular exercise for people of all ages and abilities.  These Fundamentals prepare anyone for learning any Traditional Yang Style T'ai Chi system.

Traditional Yang Style T'ai Chi Form & Corrections

For practitioners with previous T'ai Chi Fundamentals experience.  Refine your form and learn more about the principles and meditative aspects of T'ai Chi.  Experience the sharing of energy and healing abilities of chi.  Studying this art with a qualified instructor encourages consistent and correct T'ai Chi practice, thus enhancing the mind body connection for a multitude of health benefits.

QiGong (Chi Kung) Exercise for Wellness
Summer
QiGong routines emphasize gathering, storing and circulating vital energy in the body.  these are easy to learn, yet can promote health and emotional balance.  perfect for warm-ups/cool downs for other exercise and T'ai Chi forms.  Research has shown that daily practice improves immune function, releases muscle tension, improves posture and balance, and increases sense of well-being.

Arthritis Exercise
Provides gentle motion and activities to help increase joint flexibility and range of motion, and maintain muscle strength.

Stott Pilates
Age 16+
Incorporates modern exercise principles, contemporary ideas about spinal rehab and performance enhancement, with emphasis on scapular stabilization.  Many prep exercises and modifications to make this method safe and effective.

Interval
Age 16+
Mix cardio, strength training and stretching to keep your workout new and motivating.  Each week is defferent.  Equipment is provided.

Yogalates
Age 16+
Experience the benefits of both Yoga and Pilates to tighten your core and increase your flexibility.  Equipment is provided.

Belly Dancing/Hip Hop Fusion
Age 16+
Learn to move to the rhythms using every muscle and tendon in your body with these natural, uninhibited and expressive movements.  Middle eastern dance is the pulse of life, an enjoyable form of exercise and a very effective way to a more beautiful, healthy you.

Senior Citizen Aerobic Exercise
Wauwatosa Recreation Department Senior Club members may participate in this exercise program specially designed for seniors. The instructor challenges the experienced, and helps beginners get started on a path to physical fitness. Increase your strength and flexibility, balance and coordination with this low-impact cardiovascular workout.  On Fridays, opt to participate in an additional 20-minute workout using 1 lb. hand weights.

Swing Dance 
Couples can learn the East Coast moves, including the basic step, turns and Charleston variations.  A partner is necessary.

Ballroom Dance
Dance your cares away as you learn the basics of the waltz (4 weeks) and rumba (4 weeks) with one week of review.  A partner is necessary.
