Alumni Holiday Basketball Tournament

General Rules and Guidelines

I.     Player Eligibility
  1. Participants must have graduated from East or West High School and may play only for the team representing the year in which they graduated, and the school from which they graduated.  In the event a class has 2 teams, a player may only play on one team.
  2. If your team does not have enough players they will be allowed to combine with the next closest year.  Combined teams must be approved by the Recreation Department prior to the start of the tournament.
  3. Participants do not need to be from the basketball team.
  4. Failure to comply with these rules will result in an automatic disqualification from the tournament.

II.     Team Fee

  1. $30 per team fee to be paid at the time your team registers.

III.     Player Rules

  1. Each manager is responsible to inform all of his teammates of these rules.  Ignorance is not an excuse.
  2. Each player must sign the sign-up sheet (at the scorers' table) prior to each game.  Failure to do so will result in a technical foul.

Conduct of Players

  1. Unnecessary roughness, profane language, destruction of property or any other acts of unsportsmanlike behavior will not be tolerated.  Employees of the Recreation Department are authorized to maintain order and are in complete charge of the gymnasium, locker room, and school area.
  2. Players will be ejected from a game after two unsportsmanlike technical fouls.
  3. Any player ejected from a game must, if so directed by an official, leave the gym area and is suspended for the remainder of the tournament.
  4. REMEMBER, this event is for FUN!

Absolutely NO dunking before, during, or after games.

Teams in violation will receive a technical foul before the tip-off.  The player will be ejected from the game and will not be able to play for the remainder of the tournament.

IV.    Forfeits

  1. If a team fails to appear with less than a full line-up, the referees will allow a five-minute grace period before starting or forfeiting the game.  if you know your team will not show up, please call Steve Birney at the Recreation Department, (414)773-2911.

  2. Games may begin with four players.  Players must be signed in, and on the floor ready to play.

V.     Game Time/Warm-Up Time

  1. Warm-up time prior to a game is not guaranteed if the previous game(s) have run over their allotted time.

  2. Two twenty-minute halves - Clock stopping during the last minute of each half, and during free throw attempts when the ball is placed at the disposal of the shooter.

  3. Each team will be granted two time-outs per half.

  4. Each team should bring a basketball to use for the game.

VI.    Overtime

  1. Overtime will consist of three minutes with the clock stopping during the last minute of play.  Each team will receive an additional time-out.

VII.   Protests

  1. Only protests concerning player eligibility and rule interpretation will be considered.  The tournament director will handle protests on site.

VII.   Building Rules

  1. Locker room facilities must be cleared promptly after each game. 

  2. Smoking and alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited on school premises.

  3. There will be no tolerance for lack of respect to custodians, locker room attendants, scorers/timers, or referees.  Teams and players not abiding by these rules will be dropped from future participation in the tournament.

IX.   Game Dates and Times

  1. A complete schedule will be sent to the team organizer, who must in turn contact his team.  Visit our website for a schedule:  www.tosarec.com.

X.    Awards

  1. Individual player awards will be provided for 1st place teams in both divisions.

XI.   Inclement Weather

  1. Should the weather be questionable, teams may call the 24-hour program information line at (414)773-2950 for updated messages regarding tournament game status.

  2. Local radio stations will broadcast the message indicating Wauwatosa Recreation Department Activities are canceled.

XII.   Dates

We will play games on Saturday, December 22.  We will continue on Wednesday, December 26, Thursday, December 27 and Friday, December 28.  Games on 12/22 will be played during the afternoon and evening (approx. 1pm - 9pm).  Games on 12/26 and 12/27 will be played in the evening (6 - 10pm) and 12/28 will be played in the evening (7 - 9pm).  These dates and times are subject to change due to the number of participants.

With an increased number of teams participating in the alumni tournament, we are requesting your help in asking that your players bring both a dark and light colored jersey or T-shirt with a number to your game.
