Safety Town
Safety Town is open to Wauwatosa school students who will be entering KR in the fall of 2007.  This safety education program emphasizes traffic, fire and personal safety.

Be Prepared To Help - CPR & First Aid

American Red Cross program for parents, coaches, babysitters, anyone wishing to help.
Learn rescue breathing CPR and first aid for choking adult, child and infant victims, plus first aid for bleeding, broken bones and sudden illnesses.

Learn how to recognize, prevent and provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in infants and children until advanced medical personnel arrive and take over.

CPR For the Professional Rescuer

For nursing students, future lifeguards or anyone who has a job-related duty to respond in an emergency.  The course will teach you how to perform one-and two-person CPR for adults, children and infants, breathing emergencies, use of a pocket mask, and how to use an AED.

Lifeguard Readiness

Prepare yourself for the Lifeguarding Class prerequisite skills test.  Increase your endurance on front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke and sidestroke.  Learn surface dives, reaching and throwing assists, swimming on back holding an object (face out), and treading water.

LIFEGUARDS NEEDED!  Get your training now for a great job.  Learn the skills and knowledge lifeguards need to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies.  CPR for the Professional Rescuer, the use of the automated external defibrillator and first aid are included in this Red Cross class.
Participation in all classes is required for certification, along with the passing of written and skills tests.
A swim skill test will be given the first class:  1) swim 500 yds. using front crawl and breast stroke  2) swim 20 yds., surface dive to 8 - 10 ft., pick up 10# brick and swim 20 yds. using legs only.
Prerequisite:  15 yrs. to attend this class; 16 yr. to guard.

Guardstart - Lifeguarding Tomorrow

Learn basic water safety skills in and around the water in this Red Cross Intro to Lifeguarding course.  Practice basic rescues and how to respond to pool emergencies and improve your swimming strokes and aquatic fitness.  Prerequisite:  Passed Red Cross Level 5.

Water Safety Instructor

Learn to teach aquatic and safety skills to participants of all ability levels.  This American Red Cross course teaches instructor candidates how to conduct swim sessions, provide stroke evaluation, create lesson plans, and evaluate swimmers' progress.  Must be able to swim at the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Level 5 stroke performance criteria. 

Babysitting Instruction

Boys & Girls, age 11 or older
This American Red Cross Babysitter's Training course will teach you the responsibilities and qualities of being a good babysitter, and what to expect from the person who hires you.  You'll learn how to supervise children, handle emergencies and illnesses, perform first aid and help for a choking child, basic care routines including diapering infants and how to interview for a job.
