Lifeguard
Readiness
14 years +
This class is designed for those who are planning to take the lifeguard
course and want to be ready for the prerequisite skills test. Increase
your endurance for front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary
backstroke and sidestroke. Learn surface dives, reaching and throwing
assists, swimming on back holding an object (face out), and treading water.

LIFEGUARDS NEEDED! Get your
training now for a great job. Learn the skills and
knowledge lifeguards need to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies.
CPR for the Professional Rescuer, the use of the automated external
defibrillator and first aid are included in this Red Cross class.
Participation in all classes is required for certification, along with the
passing of written and skills tests.
A swim skill test will be given the first class: 1) swim 500 yds.
using front crawl and breast stroke 2) swim 20 yds., surface dive to 8
- 10 ft., pick up 10# brick and swim 20 yds. using legs only.
Prerequisite: 15 yrs. to attend this class; 16 yr. to guard

Water Safety Instructor
Age 16+
Learn to teach aquatic and safety skills to swimmers of all ability
levels. This American Red Cross course teaches instructor candidates
how to conduct swim sessions, provide stroke evaluation, create lesson
plans, and evaluate swimmers' progress. Must be able to swim at the
American Red Cross Level 5 stroke performance criteria during the pre-test
swim.
Assistant Swim
Instructor Training
Join this Red Cross
course, designed for enthusiastic people who love swimming! Learn how
to assist with our children's swim programs for ages 18 months to 10 years.
This course has both in-water and classroom portions and will cover stroke
technique, instruction and class organization. Students will also
complete an apprenticeship with experienced teachers.
Successful completion of this class may lead to great year-round
employment.

Babysitting
Instruction - American Red Cross
For boys and girls, 11yrs. and older
Learn the responsibilities and qualities of being a good babysitter, and
what to expect from the person who hires you. You'll learn to supervise
children, handle emergencies and illness, perform first aid and help for
choking, basic care routines including diapering infants, and how to
interview for a job.

Boating Basics - DNR
certification
Ages 10 - 16
In cooperation with U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary
and University of Wisconsin Sea Grant Institute
Learn and understand boating, laws, boat classifications, equipment
maintenance, boating regulations and emergency procedures.
Participants age 12 - 16 who successfully complete this course and attend
all classes are able to operate a motor boat without adult supervision.
